If you see heavy duty screws then you will know you are getting quality. Don’t go for low quality pressboard or plastic. These can be too soft, to withstand the back-and-forth motion of a recliner. 

Ask the shopkeeper and do some comparison between the models, it is better to go for frames in hardwood, like birch or poplar, is superior, but be prepared to spend about $1,000 or more. You can buy plywood, starting as low as $300. Check that the manufacturer is offering a guarantee and always buy the product which supports a longer guarantee period.
